Q&A With Majid Jordan
Canadian R&B duo Majid Jordan are making some of the hottest sounds right now. Forming in 2011 and signed to OVO Sound (founded by Drake), Majid Al Maskati provides the vocals while Jordan Ullman produces the tracks. We were lucky enough to score an exclusive interview with the pair!
How did you meet and how did you decide to form a musical duo?
Majid: I met Jordan while we were both at University. It was my 21st birthday and I helped Jordan sneak into this bar in Toronto. We started chatting and formed a quick bond over music.
Jordan: Shortly after that night Majid came to my dorm and we made two songs in one night. We learned that we worked really well together.
What inspired you to create the sound that you do?
Jordan: We are inspired by each other.
Majid: Beauty inspires us.
How would you describe your clothing style in three words?
Majid: Timeless, life, living
Jordan: Swag, dripping, baby
What is your favourite part about going on tour? -
Majid: My favourite part of going on tour is making friends.
Jordan: I love meeting new people.
What inspires you to write your tracks?
Majid & Jordan: The sound of life.
Who are your top 3 musical inspirations?
Majid: Jordan, Jordan, & Jordan
Jordan: Same answer for me.
What are the things you can’t leave your house without?
Majid & Jordan: We really don’t look at objects like that. Maybe a pen and paper but that’s really it.
How do you keep yourselves grounded when you live such busy lives?
Majid & Jordan: By sticking with the same people that we came in it with.
Who are your greatest style icons?
Jordan: Picasso & Majid.
Majid: Jimi Hendrix.
What has been your favourite moment of your career so far?
Jordan: Being able to see new places.
Majid: My favourite moment or moments is being able to wake up every day and make music.
