Whether you weren’t even around when Y2K happened, or you were hiding under a ping pong table with a can of beans waiting for the proverbial end to arrive, it’s time to close the next decade – and at least this one isn’t scheduled to be apocalyptic.
It does beg the question though, where are you spending the hyped 2020 New Year’s Eve? Don’t stress, we’ve done some digging for you, and we’ve broken it down by city.
BRISBANE
RNB NYE AT LARUCHE
Laruche is somewhere between vintage and psychedelic, with classic décor paired with an elegant dive bar, crystal chandeliers and a diverse range of rooms decked out in anything from 1920s grunge to modern industrialism. Basically, it’s pretty cool to wander around in with a cocktail in-hand.
NYE will see Laruche hosting an RnB and Hip-Hop event featuring the biggest tunes from then and now. Drinks and food packages are included, each with top shelf spirits and canapés, with tickets now available at $99.

If you’re after something a little fancier, but still want to kick it in style, then New Year’s Eve at Eleven’s Rooftop Bar is the way to go. It drops in more expensive than your usual at $175, but every dollar is stacked for a reason. Eleven Rooftop Bar is an exclusive place to spend NYE, radiating elegance and prestige across an industrially opulent vantage point, perfectly catching skyline views of the city and surrounding inner-city suburbs.
The event itself is going NOIR with an all-black dress code, unlimited drinks, delicious food, roving performers and live DJs. Doubling down with a spectacular viewing angle for the evening’s fireworks at both 8:30pm and midnight, this is the ultimate in high-class.
MR PERCIVAL’S / HOWARD SMITH WHARVES
Probably the ultimate fusion of casual and class, Mr Percival’s will be offering free entry on NYE, with live DJs spinning tracks all night long. Location is key here, with the unique circular bar overlooking the Brisbane River and Story Bridge from an awesome water-level height. Enjoy cocktails on the pier with the glittering Story Bridge towering across from north to south, all within meters of a dance floor and the easy option to jump ship to Howard Smith Wharves for a change up during the night.

A new arrival on the NYE block, LOST festival is something else altogether. Tickets start at $117, which to be honest, is an absolute steal. Every ticket tier includes a boat transfer trip to Couran Cove Island Resort on South Stradbroke Island, where a waterfront firework display is met with a carefully curated selection of musical and cultural experiences, as well as the picturesque azure waters capped with the sunset of a decade. This one is for the party fanatics out there, the ones looking to kick off 2020 in a futuristic club right out of Blade Runner’s industrial chaos. VIP Tickets are only $25, so this is a great option for a cheaper night somewhere authentic and guaranteed to impress.

The event is hosted on the water with Grammy Award nominated DJ/Producer Todd Terry, known globally for his European dance records and charismatic style. With stunning views of the bay and a venue in between high-class and tropical, keep this one on the shortlist for NYE 2020.
NYE AT THE FIDDLER
A tailored mix of food, drinks, entertainment and laidback vibes. The Fiddler sits perfectly within the classy Sunday Sesh realm, offering a dynamic range of spaces to chill out and relax in, cocktails all-round and a selection of open-air spaces with live DJs. If you’re looking for something just right, this is the one for you.

LOCO 2020 ON THE ROOFTOP
Unlimited beer and wine, amazing rooftop views, fireworks, barbeque food, pinatas and live DJs. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with a combination like that, cop a ticket for $85 and you’re set for New Year’s Eve somewhere halfway exotic and ready to party.

The festival everywhere else in Australia is jealous of, literally. Bring in 2020 at one of the most memorable festivals of the year, spread across both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
BLOCK PARTY NYE – LEEDERVILLE & NEWCASTLE ST
Taking over Leederville & Newcastle Street, this will be a block party like no other. The ‘venue’ has been custom built, encompassing Bill’s Bar & Bites, Babushka, Blue Flamingo, The Garden and Little Dance Club, as well as hosting a huge line up of artists playing through ‘till 2am. Genres range from RnB to Disco, all the way through to a Silent House Party. Tickets will set you back $40, easily a workable NYE with a ton of nightlife to be had.
NYE ON THE BEACH, THE LOOKOUT BOWLING BITES
Probably the most chill option of the three, reserve a place on New Year’s Eve at The Lookout Bowling Bites to solidify a beachfront end to 2020. Pints will be flying off the shelves at $6 each until 2pm, while a line-up of Perth’s best DJs will be playing the night away. There’s nothing like closing the year under a sunset and over the sand.
