Giants Sign Nick Hundley
San Francisco Giants have signed Nick Hundley on a one-year, $2 million contract as a veteran backup catcher behind Buster Posey.
Hundley, 33, has played majority of his 746 games in his career so far for San Diego and Colorado, two of San Francisco's National League West rivals. Giant's general manager Bobby Evans welcomes his experience and familiarity with the NL West to the team.
"His experience overall brings added value to our club," he said.
The decision, however, has sparked concerns for Posey, 29, who caught 123 games last season, started 122 of them, winning his first Gold Glove Award.
Evans explains that the move doesn't indicate changes for Posey.
"The more we can keep Buster behind the plate and healthy, the stronger our team is,” Evans said.
“The ideal is to keep him back there as much as possible and 120 [games] is a very fair target.”
